The Seventh House: House of Partnerships

The twelve houses represent twelve experiential realms, through which the energy of the zodiac sign is expressed. Each house represents a certain area of life experience.

The Seventh House is the third of the Angular Houses and is ruled by the zodiac sign of Libra and the planet Venus. The cusp of the Seventh House is where we find the Descendant, which shows how we relate to people as individuals.

The Seventh House marks a change in the focus of energy in a persons chart. Whereas the first six houses deal with the individual expression of the universal energies, the last six houses address directing the universal energy outwards rather than inwards.

The Seventh House ruled of course by Libra deals with face to face relationships and co-operation. This can include business relationships, marital partnerships and any dealings that involve one to one interaction with others. This house shows your ability to commit to others and to co-operate with others. It reveals your attitude to all partnership issues and the kind of partnerships you can expect or need particularly in regard to marriage.

Where as the First House shows your strongest personality traits, this house being its opposite, shows your weakest traits, those you need to develop during this lifetime.

Our successful interaction with those we come into contact with is vital if we are become productive members of society as a whole. It is here that we learn that we a part of a greater whole and that co-operation with others is a vital ingredient in personal and collective development.

The Seventh House deals with all elements of partnership, including the more difficult aspects such as legal matters, divorces and other such conflicts. The lesson the seventh house offers us is that one to one relationships need to be worked at in a selfless way if they are to best serve our own personal development and the greater good of all concerned.

In karmic astrology the Seventh House addresses issues such as soul mates and past relationships.

Planets placed in this house, particularly if within 8-10 degrees of the cusp have a very powerful affect in this area because they effectively form an opposition to the ascendant.
